A change for us!

Due to work committments we have had to take a break from the blog and from the Byron and Banglow markets, however, our little mobile gallery, CASA GALLERIA, is back at The Bangalow Markets (only) on our new corner site!

The next Banglow market will be on Sunday 26th September, 2010. We hope to see you there. We have a lovely selection of frames intaglio pieces named 'Silent space', new hand printed embossed retro doily cards that are just the perfect wedding invite or very special card that you may wish to send to a very special person.

Altered Book Workshop - The Waywood Gallery - Still at the Centre - Byron Bay 2010

Sometimes you have one of those sublime days where everything falls into place; the altered book workshop at Still@the-centre in Byron Bay's famous Industrial estate was one of those days. I always believe that a quality learning outcome is the combination of the teacher's ability to facilitate and essentially the students ability to learn. This particular workshop ran for 3 hours with a short morning tea break in the January school holidays of 2010.

A book is tangible, portable, the keeper of secrets, and of important information. The aim of the workshop was to 'personalise' and 'alter' a book. Students were shown examples of Tom Phillip's altered book, 'A Humument' and some physical examples made by myself, (that are yet to be photographed and loaded onto this blog). 'A Humument' is a treated book by British artist Tom Phillips based on the Victorian novel 'A Human Document 'by W.H. Mallock. The student's however, were asked to consider how their book could contain some sort of secret.

'The Sparrow' expresses the journey of a small bird in a large world.

Student's were asked to 'install' or 'present' their artists' book for photographic documentation during the last 15 minutes of the workshop. Most of these photographs were taken by the students as part of the learning process of making art work.

A clever page dissection.

The art studios at Still@the-centre are more than generous.
